Russian Dolls for Codename: Babushka

Thank you to the guys at Flatties for having me as a part of Codename: Babushka. This is such a great idea for a project and i’m really happy to be a part of it! There’s 15 artists involved in the project (head here to see a list) each artist’s set is then split up, muddled about with the other dolls and put back together at random, so you will receive 5 pieces of original art from 5 different artists! A Set of 5 russian dolls is £140, they also offer a payment plan, details here.

Codename Babushka is designed for the ulitmate blindbox experience and collectors in mind. Russian Dolls have been sent to all the artists below, each artist has a nest of 5 russian dolls starting at 5.5″ and shrinking down to 1.5″. They have been commissioned to create 5 artworks which will fit back inside each other. Once completed and collected up at Flatties HQ we will mix them all up and put them into blindboxes.

I handpainted my wooden dolls with acrylics in thin layers, leaving the woodgrain exposed underneath. They are then sealed with layers of lacquer for protection and shine. Each doll in the set is inspired by a different animal, going up in size: Hamster, rabbit, red panda, lemur, ram.

Bunnypillars for Meth & Hot Dogs 2

I have some work on display at the Meth and Hot Dogs 2 show at the end of the month. These plush Bunnypillars are an idea i’ve been wanting to try out ever since i did my Bunnypillars painting a while back. Each Bunnypillar plush has a handcast, handpainted resin face set onto a plush body. Each Bunnypillar has then been potted in a real plant pot, and finished with faux ‘mud’. Each one is handmade with love in the A Little Stranger studio and features a woven A Little Stranger tag.

The Bunnypillars (available individually for $40 each) and the last two remaining large copies of the prints (11.5″ x 16.5″) will be available to buy at the show.

Meth & Hot Dogs 2 is a celebration of character art in all its forms. The exhibit will bring together a group of artists whose illustrations, plush, custom toys, sculptures and paintings show an appreciation for the demented, cute and strange. M&HD2 opens April 30th at Lift Designer Toys & Gallery in Royal Oak, MI. Check out the complete list of participating artists!

Week in Pictures: Skateboards & mail goodies

I’m posting my Week in Pictures a day early this week cause tomorrow i’m *finally* launching the new A Little Stranger shop! Its been a long crazy journey, lots of late nights behind the scenes getting it all up and running, but it’ll be online and starting off with an Easter weekend sale. But enough of that, on with the pictures!

This is Louis’ new deck i illustrated for him. He draws a funny picture on every new deck he gets, usually these cute little potato guys he draws doing funny stuff, so it was an honour for me to doodle his new board! I thought i’d better take a break from drawing fluffy bunnies on everything so i did a big scary manly dragon… then i put some rainbows in

OMG Jonjo made these rice crispie treats and they were the best ever. This picture is probably a thenth of what he made, in a day i must have eaten a zillion of them. Be warned, they are irresistible, your thighs will hate you!!

1/3 butter

1/3 dairy toffee

1/3 marshmallows

Rice Crispies

Line a large baking tray with greaseproof paper. Meanwhile melt all the ingredients (apart from the rice crispies) in a saucepan over a very gentle heat until combined. Add in rice crispies and stir until the syrupy mix is spread thinly and consistently over all the cereal. (You may be surprised by how much this is! We used a bag of marshmallows, a small bag of toffees and we had two big batches of them, enough for Jonjo to take half to work and me to stuff my face with the rest ha!)

I got a package from Sugarpill makeup this week. I got the Royal Sugar shadow, and I was absolutely thrilled when it arrived! The box is big and exciting, and your order comes packed in hot pink tissue with free stickers and pretty business cards. The shadow itself is gorgeous- theres something about the colour thats hard to capture with a camera, its a full bright flat blue spotted with turquoise glitter flecks. It looks gorgeous on, blends easily and lasted all night of me jumping up and down at a drum & bass night. Plus, its huuuuge, at least twice as big as a pot of Barry M dazzle dust. I’m a total convert!

Week in pictures: Birthday stuff

This is a short and sweet post this week as lots of the things i’ve been up to this week i can’t post pictures of just yet, i’ve been super busy with not so much time for my personal projects. I’ve also been working on a Christmas instructable for Monday that i’m *really* excited about sharing!! Also my camera memory card died so i didn’t take any pictures last weekend apart from the ones at Eddie Izzard, woopsie!

So today is my birthday and Jonjo has been spoiling me rotten He got me (amongst many other awesome things) this FULL SIZE GLOOMY BEAR ARM!! this is like the coolest thing x 385765874658473654! He had a bunch of my presents delivered to his work and the guys in the office were all like ‘who are they for?!!’ <3 <3 <3

His twitter screen was live to Wembly stadium and between the 3 of us we had a race who could get their tweet on the screen first.

Top highlight of this week was going to see Eddie Izzard at the weekend. Me and my sister have been loving him forever but this is the first time we’ve seen him live, and it didn’t disappoint! I’ve included our obligatory ‘get someone to take a picture of us with our tickets’ picture, we take one at every gig we go to its like a really dorky tradition! Then we went and bought Eddie Izzard t shirts ha ha!

Making sushi. We’ve got it down pretty good now and its sooo yummy! And the piggies are very happy with the leftovers

Also putting a smile on my face this week: Making Christmas decorations / Making stockings (i havent had one since i was tiny!) / getting a real christmas tree, i’ve only had plastic ones before / Gold glittery shoes / Rainbow party plans / Rainbow striped fishnet tights / Wagamamas / “just do whatever Sarah Beenie tells you and you’ll merc it”
