Pink Octopus necklace

Pink octopus necklace

I’m very excited to introduce my first jewellery collection! The Tentacle collection features original handmade jewellery inspired by my favorite sea dweller; the octopus. I love the texture and movement of tentacles flowing in the sea and i’ve tried to capture this in each piece. They are all hand painted with vibrant metallic and iridescent paints that shimmer and sparkle as you move. The collection is limited to 11 pieces; 3 large necklaces, 7 smaller necklaces and one pair of earrings.

Each piece is one of a kind and not to be repeated, entirely hand sculpted and totally unique – no molds were used or taken.

Edit – All pieces in the collection are sold out, thanks for everyone who bought one. To be the first to know when new pieces go on sale join the mailing list.

Finished Octopus necklace

I’ve been wanting a big octopus necklace for forever, so i got busy making this little (or rather, big) guy! I sculpted him in polymer clay and  then painted him with lots of fine layers of metallic paints. He’s finished with a durable glossy laquer to really bring out the depths of the paints i used. I’m working on a couple more, and some smaller items that will be avaliable in time to buy as Christmas gifts :)

This pictures was taken before we went on holiday, while we were away the marigolds in the background got eaten by slugs and the geraniums got all dried out and nasty. boo! :(

It’s been a productive week! My friend Alicia learned to knit and has been busting out squares left right and centre! I’ve been working on some pac man ones, i’ve got one more ghost left to make and all the fruits! I also did one with a chao from Sonic Adventure DS.

We calculated how many squares it’ll need to complete the blanket, and its something mind boggling like 270! So it looks like i’ll be at it for a while yet. We would love to receive a square from you if you can knit or crochet!

Made a few more squares, using more blue-tones this week. I have a couple of friends who want to learn to knit so i spent a bit of time figuring out how to knit a 5×5″ square, this is where im getting really excited because i want to do a bunch of squares with computer game sprites in them. I started with a Mario mushroom, im currently looking for the perfect Sonic the Hedgehog blue so i can get all nostaligic for my Mega Drive :)

Yellow Jellyfluff measures up...

Group shot on June 7 2009

These are the basic patterns i’ve been using but you can use any pattern you like as long as the result is a 5″x5″ square :)

Each square is 5″ x 5″ (13 x 13 cm). I’ve been crocheting them using a 4mm needle and mostly 4 ply yarn (im just using up random bits and bobs of yarn so theres some chunky and thinner stuff thrown in there, too)

Project blankie - join in!

Knitting Pattern:
Using 4mm needles cast on 26 stitches, knit 40 rows, cast off.  Simples

Crochet Pattern: Here’s the pattern i’ve *mostly* been using (As the wool has been irregular thickesses i’ve sometimes omitted a row of 3-dc clusters, or swaped the last dc round for a sc to keep them the same size)

With Color A, ch 5, join to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as a dc in this and all following rnds), 2 dc in ring; (ch 3, 3 dc in ring) 3 times; ch 3; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; sl st to the next ch 3 space).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; * ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-3 sp work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3:

Rnd 3: Join color B in any ch-3 corner sp: ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; * ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp: 3-dc group made; ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-3 corner sp work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-l sp: 3-dc group made; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 5: Join color C in any ch-3 corner sp; ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; * (ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp) twice; ch 1, sk next 3 dc, in next ch-3 comer sp work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc): corner made; rep from * twice more; (ch 1, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp) twice; ch 1, sk next 3 dc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3; finish off.
